Description

GCNT4 (Glucosaminyl (N-Acetyl) Transferase 4, Core 2) encodes a member of the beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase family. This enzyme catalyzes the transfer of N-acetylglucosamine to the core 1 O-glycan structure, forming core 2 branched O-glycans. Core 2 O-glycans are critical for mucin biosynthesis and cell surface glycoprotein function. GCNT4 is predominantly expressed in the stomach, colon, and other mucosal tissues.
