Description

FSCN1 encodes fascin, an actin-bundling protein that organizes filamentous actin into parallel bundles. It is essential for the formation of cellular protrusions such as filopodia and lamellipodia, playing a key role in cell adhesion, migration, and invasion. Overexpression of FSCN1 is frequently observed in various cancers and is associated with poor prognosis and metastatic potential.

Protein Summary

Fascin (FSCN1) is a 55 kDa actin-bundling protein that cross-links actin filaments into tightly packed parallel bundles. It is highly expressed in neuronal tissues, dendritic cells, and various cancers. Fascin localizes to filopodia and lamellipodia, where it stabilizes actin protrusions essential for cell migration and invasion. Its overexpression in epithelial cancers is a marker of aggressive disease and poor prognosis.
