Description

E2F5 is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors that regulate cell cycle progression and DNA synthesis. It forms heterodimers with DP proteins and binds to E2F consensus sites in target gene promoters. E2F5 is primarily involved in repressing transcription during quiescence and is implicated in development and cancer.

Protein Summary

E2F5 is a 346-amino acid protein containing a DNA-binding domain, a dimerization domain, and a transactivation domain. It preferentially binds to the E2F consensus site TTTCGCGC and represses transcription when associated with pocket proteins. E2F5 is highly expressed in testis and certain cancers, where it may drive proliferation.
