Description
CRTAC1 encodes a secreted extracellular matrix protein predominantly expressed in cartilage. It contains a C-type lectin domain and is involved in cell adhesion and matrix organization. The protein is also found in brain and is implicated in osteogenesis and cancer progression.
Disease Associations
| Disease category | Pathophysiological mechanism | Genomic evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Osteoarthritis | Altered CRTAC1 expression may disrupt cartilage extracellular matrix integrity, contributing to joint degeneration. | PMID: 25604813 |
| Breast cancer | CRTAC1 is hypermethylated and downregulated in breast cancer, suggesting a tumor suppressor role. | PMID: 23943740 |
| Lung adenocarcinoma | CRTAC1 expression is associated with immune infiltration and prognosis. | PMID: 32943678 |

Protein Summary
CRTAC1 is a 661-amino acid secreted protein with a signal peptide, a C-type lectin domain, and a C-terminal cysteine-rich region. It is glycosylated and forms disulfide-linked dimers. The protein binds calcium and mediates cell-matrix interactions.
