Description

CRTAC1 encodes a secreted extracellular matrix protein predominantly expressed in cartilage. It contains a C-type lectin domain and is involved in cell adhesion and matrix organization. The protein is also found in brain and is implicated in osteogenesis and cancer progression.

Disease Associations

Disease category Pathophysiological mechanism Genomic evidence
Osteoarthritis Altered CRTAC1 expression may disrupt cartilage extracellular matrix integrity, contributing to joint degeneration. PMID: 25604813
Breast cancer CRTAC1 is hypermethylated and downregulated in breast cancer, suggesting a tumor suppressor role. PMID: 23943740
Lung adenocarcinoma CRTAC1 expression is associated with immune infiltration and prognosis. PMID: 32943678

Protein Summary

CRTAC1 is a 661-amino acid secreted protein with a signal peptide, a C-type lectin domain, and a C-terminal cysteine-rich region. It is glycosylated and forms disulfide-linked dimers. The protein binds calcium and mediates cell-matrix interactions.
