Description
CLINT1 (clathrin interactor 1), also known as epsinR, encodes a protein that contains an epsin N-terminal homology (ENTH) domain. It functions as a clathrin-associated sorting protein involved in clathrin-mediated endocytosis and intracellular vesicle trafficking. The protein binds to clathrin and adaptor protein complexes, facilitating the recruitment of cargo and the formation of coated vesicles. CLINT1 is ubiquitously expressed and plays a role in the endocytic pathway, particularly in the retrieval of synaptic vesicle proteins and the sorting of receptors.

Protein Summary
CLINT1 (epsinR) is a 625-amino acid protein with an N-terminal ENTH domain that binds phosphoinositides and a C-terminal region that interacts with clathrin and adaptor proteins. It is localized to clathrin-coated pits and vesicles, where it promotes cargo selection and vesicle formation. The protein is essential for efficient endocytosis in neurons and other cell types, and its dysfunction is linked to neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders.
