Description

ALKBH4 (AlkB Homolog 4, Lysine Demethylase) is a protein-coding gene that encodes a member of the AlkB family of dioxygenases. The enzyme catalyzes the demethylation of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) in RNA and may also act on DNA. It is involved in RNA metabolism, gene expression regulation, and cellular stress responses. ALKBH4 is ubiquitously expressed with highest levels in testis and brain.

Protein Summary

ALKBH4 is a 286-amino acid protein containing a conserved AlkB domain. It localizes to the nucleus and cytoplasm and demethylates N6-methyladenosine in RNA, influencing RNA stability and translation. The protein is expressed in multiple tissues and is implicated in cancer and neurodevelopment.
