What is Energy Metabolism & Mitochondria ?
Energy metabolism centers on the conversion of nutrients into ATP through glycolysis, the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) in mitochondria. Mitochondrial function also encompasses fusion/fission dynamics, calcium handling and apoptosis. Metabolic reprogramming is a hallmark of cancer and relevant to obesity, diabetes and neurodegeneration.
