Description

TP53TG1 (TP53 Target Gene 1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is transcriptionally activated by the tumor suppressor p53 in response to DNA damage. It plays a role in regulating apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and DNA repair pathways. TP53TG1 is frequently downregulated in various cancers, suggesting a tumor-suppressive function. Its expression is associated with poor prognosis in some malignancies, and it may act as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to modulate microRNA activity.

Disease Associations

Disease category Pathophysiological mechanism Genomic evidence
Breast cancer Downregulation of TP53TG1 leads to increased cell proliferation and invasion via miRNA sponging PMID: 28431213
Colorectal cancer Reduced TP53TG1 expression correlates with advanced tumor stage and metastasis PMID: 29348672
Gastric cancer TP53TG1 silencing promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) PMID: 30131733
Hepatocellular carcinoma TP53TG1 acts as a tumor suppressor by regulating p53 signaling PMID: 31065024
Lung cancer Low TP53TG1 levels associated with poor survival and chemoresistance PMID: 31525678

Protein Summary

TP53TG1 does not encode a protein; it functions as a long non-coding RNA that regulates gene expression through interactions with microRNAs and chromatin-modifying complexes.
