Description
ADM5 (adrenomedullin 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19q13.33. It belongs to the adrenomedullin family of peptides involved in vasodilation and cellular signaling. The gene encodes a precursor protein that is processed to produce a mature peptide with potential roles in cardiovascular regulation and neuroendocrine function.
Disease Associations
| Disease category | Pathophysiological mechanism | Genomic evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Hypertension | ADM5 peptide may modulate vascular tone via receptor binding; dysregulation linked to elevated blood pressure | Limited evidence from association studies; not yet confirmed in large cohorts |
| Cardiovascular disease | Potential involvement in vasodilation and cardiac function | Inferred from family member ADM; direct evidence for ADM5 is sparse |

Protein Summary
The ADM5 protein is a 185-amino-acid precursor that is cleaved to produce a mature adrenomedullin-like peptide. It shares structural homology with adrenomedullin (ADM) and is predicted to bind to calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CALCRL) with receptor activity-modifying proteins (RAMPs), modulating vasodilation and cellular proliferation. Expression is low in most tissues, with highest levels in adrenal gland.
